Mom’s Day Events

It doesn’t matter if your kids have 2 legs or 4 legs and fur. You’re still a mom. And this is your weekend! We have a lot of things going on too!

May Day for Mutts is going on tomorrow. This annual event is hosted by Holly Ridge Manor Canine Country Club. There will be a lot of rescue groups with adoptable pets, music, food, vendors, K9 shows, bounce houses, raffles, pony rides, and more. May Day for Mutts raises needed funds for the rescues that attend and it goes all day from 11 to 6. So go have fun and show your support! There will also be Canine Good Citizen testing at the event for just $10 and half goes to the rescues. Holly Ridge Manor is located at 2993 Seaboard Road in Virginia Beach. Bay Beagle Rescue, K9 Justice League, Animal Resources of Tidewater, Collie and Shetland Sheepdog Rescue of Southeast Virginia, Chesapeake Humane Society, Rainbow Animal Rescue, and Critters 4 U Rescue are some of the rescues that will be there.

K-9 New Life will be out showing off the dogs tomorrow. You can meet them at the Hilltop PetsMart in Virginia Beach from 12 to 3. They have puppies, middle age dogs, and some great seniors that are looking for a new home. Go find a new friend!

Animal Aid Society and the Cat Corner are having a fundraiser tomorrow. Stop by Blue Skies Gallery in Hampton and check it out. They have beautiful artwork done by local artists. The event runs from 11 to 4. Blue Skies Gallery is located at 26 South King Street.

Chesapeake Humane Society is having a fundraiser with Laurie Bateman Photography. You can get some wonderful Spring Photos of your furry friend for $15 a session and one 5 x 7 print. Or you can splurge and get two prints from a session for $20. Everything is first come, first served, and starts at 10 tomorrow morning. The studio is located at 115 Kempsville Road in Chesapeake.

Virginia Beach SPCA needs some donations. They need pork or chicken hotdogs to use as pill pockets. Even the Sam’s or Costco brands are good! And they also need hand towels for the wildlife department and shelter. New or gently used can be donated. So if you find some while you’re spring cleaning, just drop them by the shelter.

Isle of Wight County Humane Society will be out with adoptable pets this weekend. They’ll be at the Newport News PetsMart tomorrow and Sunday from 12 to 4. And they’ll be at the Newport News Petco on Sunday from 12 to 4. So go out and meet everybody!

XOXO Pet Rescue will be out with the dogs tomorrow too. You can meet them at the Oyster Point Care A Lot from 11 to 3.

PAWS of Hertford County is in need of dry dog food. They’re almost out of Pedigree Adult Dry Dogfood. You can drop some by the shelter or at the Greenbrier PetsMart. They’ll be at that location next Saturday.

Bertie County Humane Society is in need of monetary donations to keep everything going. The shelter is pretty full and they need supplies and food. You can get their PayPal link on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bertie-County-Humane-Society/93008103060.

SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina will be busy tomorrow! They’ll have adoptable pets out greeting people at the Downtown Waterfront Market in Elizabeth City in the morning from 9 to 1. Then in the evening they’ll be at the Out in the Cold Concert at the site of the new shelter. Gates open at 3 and the concert will be from 4 to 6. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No cooler will be allowed and you need to bring a chair. The new shelter location is at 102 Enterprise Drive. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Are you ready for a Pug Fest? Pugapalooza 2014 will be going on tomorrow at Ballentine Bark Park in Norfolk tomorrow. This year’s theme is Superheroes and Villains. Dress up your little sweetie and head to the park for super fun from 12 to 4.

Portsmouth Humane Society has a Mother’s Day Special going on through Sunday. You can adopt a dog for just $50. This includes the spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchip. You can get Mom a lot of love for just $50! PHS is located at 4022 Seaboard Court.
