Friday The 13th

If you find any mistakes in here, I should tell you why now. Wink is actively helping type this post. Her typing and editing skills aren’t quite up to par but she likes to help. She gives new meaning to the word “kneading” when it’s done on a keyboard. Anyway, we have a lot of events this weekend. Just hope the rain doesn’t cancel out any of them.

Suffolk Humane Society is having 2 adoption events tomorrow. One will be at the Chesapeake Square PetsMart from 11 to 3. And the second one will be at the North Suffolk PetsMart from 11 to 3. Santa will be at both of them from 11 to 4 for photos with your pet.

If you do adopt from SHS, don’t forget to take your adoption papers to Mike Duman Auto Sales at 2300 Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk. You’ll get a check for a $25 refund on the adoption fee. This is good for the first 100 pets adopted.

Beagles to the Rescue and Bay Beagles Rescue will be at the Petco on Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach tomorrow. They’ll be there with Santa from 11 to 3. Make a donation to one of the rescues and they will upload a picture of your pet with Santa. Then you can print out as many copies as you want.

One of the biggest events is the Heritage Humane Society Holiday Bazaar. It will be at the Bruton Parish Hall on Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg from 9 to 3. You might want to get there early for the Soup Kitchen. Local chefs donate 10 quarts of soup each. And for $25 you get a quart of soup, bread, and a bowl. They sell out fast! There will also be a bake sale, gift baskets, Attic Treasures, Gina Goad homemade soaps, a jewelry table, hand knit dog sweaters, hand-made gifts for people and pets, scarves, cat themed gifts from Siamese Rescue, and HHS Auxiliary Cookbooks, pet treats and toys, raffles, and more. You could probably get gifts for everyone on your list at the bazaar!

Peninsula SPCA will be at Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News to gift wrap all your gifts. They’ll be wrapping from 11 to 5 tomorrow and from 11 to 4 on Sunday. Some of the pets from the shelter will be stopping by to greet everyone.

Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society will be at A Winter’s Tail in Wonderland tomorrow. It will be at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs in Ware Neck from 11 to 2. Santa will be there too so bring your camera. GMHS will be selling hot chocolate, hot dogs, baked goods, pet treats, and more. At 1, Jay Hutchins will read “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Brent and Becky’s will also be having a warehouse sale with spring blooming bulbs priced at 75% off. Don’t miss all the fun! Everyone is welcome including the furkids.

As far as I know, Animal Aid Society will be out tomorrow with the dogs. Look for them at the Hampton Petco, Tabb Walmart, Newport News PetsMart, and the Oyster Point Care A Lot. They’re usually out from 12 to 4.

Chesapeake Humane Society is having an adoption event tomorrow. They’ll have pets from the shelter out to meet you at the Chesapeake Square PetsMart from 10 to 3.

Virginia Beach SPCA is having a “Home for the Holidays” event tomorrow. Go meet the shelter pets from 10 to 5. And drop off some dish detergent and laundry detergent. Any kind is fine. While you’re there you can play “Let’s Make A Deal” and get your raffle tickets for a Kindle Fire.

Tomorrow is also the Pucks and Paws night at the Norfolk Admirals game. Go to http://www.norfolkadmirals.com/group_sales_intro.php to get your tickets. Enter the promo code NSPCA13 and $2 will go to the shelter. You can even bring your dog!

Isle of Wight County Humane Society will have some pets out to meet you this weekend. Look for them at the Newport News PetsMart tomorrow from 12 to 4. And on Sunday, they’ll be at the Newport News Petco from 12 to 4.

If you live further up on the Peninsula, take your pet to the 4 Paws Thrift Store at 801 Main Street in West Point. Santa will be there for photos from 12 to 3. A $10 donation for Indian Rivers Humane Society is requested.

Great Dane Rescue of the Commonwealth and Photos By Feist will be at the Janaf Petco on Virginia Beach Boulevard in Norfolk this weekend. They’ll be doing the Christmas Pals photos from 11 to 5 tomorrow and Sunday.

Rainbow Animal Rescue will be out at the Pembroke and Landstown Commons PetsMart tomorrow. You can get Christmas photos of your pets and meet some of the adoptable animals from 11 to 4.

Portsmouth Humane Society is having a Santa Paw-ty and Holiday Open House this weekend from 1 to 4 both days. Santa will be there from 1 to 3 both days for photos. A talented face painter will be there both days to decorate little faces for a donation. Photos are $5 and Mrs Claus will mail them to you. Sunday is also National Cupcake Day and you can get some freebie cupcakes while supplies last. So get there early! PHS is also celebrating Merry Pit-mas this month. Adoption fees for all adult pit bulls and pit mixes are reduced 25%. Don’t forget to drop off your donation for the Angel tree! Check out the wish list at http://www.portsmouthhumanesociety.org/angeltree.html.

Depending on the weather, XOXO Pet rescue may be at the Oyster Care a Lot tomorrow with some adoptable pets. Look for them from 12 to 4.

PAWS of Hertford County will be having an rabies clinic tomorrow at Central Ford 2 in Ahoskie. Rabies shots are just $6 each for a 1 year vaccine.

Outer Banks SPCA will be at the Nags Head PetsMart tomorrow from 11 to 4 for the Santa Claws photo event. You can meet some of the shelter pets and get a pic done with Santa. Photos are $5. You take the picture with your phone or camera. I think all the PetsMart Christmas photos this year are done with your device because frames and prints aren’t available. But the donation also gets you $25 in coupons so you can save money getting your pet’s gifts. Well worth taking your camera! PetsMart is located at 2210 South Croatan Highway in Nags Head.

There is supposed to be a parade in Yorktown tomorrow that might be cancelled if it rains. If not, then you can go see the Toyland Parade at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown. SEVA GRREAT will be participating. The Yorktown Fife and Drum Club and the Polar Express will be in the parade too. It should start around 1:30. You can go earlier for the Yorktown Market Days.

Currituck Animal Shelter is having an adoption special this month. You can draw something from the holiday jar. You can get a discount on adoption fees, a free microchip, free pet toys, and more. Go meet your new best friend! The shelter is located at 204 Airport Road.

Critters 4 U Rescue INC., is in need of donations. They’re really low on supplies. If you have a donation for the rescue, take it to Tubbs Used Auto Parts tomorrow and put it under the tree. Then go in and see Meredith. You’ll be entered in the raffle. Everything donated goes to the rescue too. They need new or gently used dog and cat toys, bleach, cat litter, dry kitten and puppy food, canned cat and dog food, paper towels, trash bags, dog bones, flea prevention, newspaper, gift cards, and money. You can check out their wish list at http://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/146OO888CCYLI. I don’t know what the raffle prize is but you can check the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Critters4URescueInc to see if it’s listed.

Well, that’s it for this week. Can you believe that Christmas is in 1 ½ weeks? I’ll have more for you next week. If you find some sun, get out there with your dog and have fun. Just bundle up first!

  2. Thanks! I spend every Thursday night stalking, er visiting, yes visiting all the Facebook pages and websites of every local rescue and shelter I know about. And get on all the event mailing lists for each rescue and shelter too. It’s a lot to go through but I feel if I can get more people to attend the events, then more animals will get adopted.
