Getting Ready Again

We have a few things to get ready for too! We’ve got a storm coming up the coast that may be quite noisy. And, it’s fireworks weekend. I know people have fireworks on July 4th, but in my neighborhood it takes all weekend to go through all the fireworks. Mac’s anxiety wrap is going to get a workout this weekend!

I saw a post on Facebook about a dog going into anaphylactic shock. This is something dog guardians may need to know about. You can check it out at

I also found several articles about fireworks fear in dogs. Check them out at and at

I recommend a Thundershirt or anxiety wrap for gearful dogs. Mac loves his wrap so I crocheted him one. His original one was getting stretched and cruddy looking. His new ones fit him very well and they’ll last a lot longer. You can get a Thundershirt at PetsMart, Petco, and Care A Lot Pet Supplies. They are also available at the other pet supply stores on the southside. If you can’t get one of those, you can find out about anxiety wraps and how to make one at

You can also use Bach Rescue Remedy. More info is at And you can learn about calming music at I use a combination of all of these depending on the situation.

We’ve got a few events that may or may not actually happen too. Norfolk SPCA is hosting Red, White, and Whiskers this evening from 6:30 to 7:30 at the shelter. There will be wine tasting by Barefoot Wine and Bubbly and some noms by Cabot. There will also be giveaways and adoption discounts. The shelter is located at 916 Ballentine Boulevard. If you want to call, the number is 622-3319.

Pit Bull Awareness coalition is supposed to be in the South Norfolk 4th of July Parade tomorrow morning. I’m not too sure that will happen. You might want to check the Facebook page at Right now they say they’re still planning to go.

Sea Salt Grille in Kitty Hawk is supposed to host Furry Friday for the Outer Banks SPCA tomorrow afternoon. I’m not too sure that will actually happen though. Sea Salt Grille is located at 4716 North Croatan Highway in Kitty Hawk. You may want to call them to make sure they’ll be open. Their number is 252-261-7325.

That’s it for today. I’ll have weekend events for you tomorrow because Saturday is supposed to be clear and cooler. Make sure you and your pets stay safe!
