Still Time!

Don’t have a very much for you today. But there is still time to help support the local rescues and shelters. I know every charity in the world is begging for your money right now. But helping the shelters and rescues keeps your money local and you can always stop in check on things. And maybe take a furry friend home with you.

Give. Treat. Love. is working with The Creative Wedge and Eco Trends/Eco Maniac Company to benefit local rescues. The Furry Elf Project will benefit GO Rescue, K9 Justice League, and Rainbow Animal Rescue. Just stop by The Creative Wedge in Hilltop West or Eco Trends/Eco Maniac Company in the Village Shoppes at Rose Hall and get a tag from the tree. Then purchase an item on the rescue wish list and bring it back to the shop by the 20th. Easy thing to do!

You can still donate to a shelter to help light their Trees for the Animals. Chesapeake Humane Society has one at White’s Nursery. You can get more info and donate at https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/ChesapeakeHumaneSociety/treefortheanimals.html. The tree lighting will be held on December 21st at the nursery. Partners Among Cats and Canines also has a Tree at Fred’s Restaurant. The tree lighting will be at the restaurant Friday evening. You can donate or get more info at http://www.pacconline.org.

Snow to Go at the Premier Outlet Mall in Williamsburg is having a pet food drive for Peninsula Pet Pantry. Just drop off pet food, supplies, grooming items, toys or flea/tick prevention in the bin. All of the donated food and supplies go to help local animals.

If you’re looking for something a bit different for a gift, stop by The Artists Gallery in Virginia Beach. Hope for Life Rescue has a table with gift baskets for sale. All the proceeds benefit the animals in the shelter.

Muddy Buddy and Fit With Fido are also helping out the Virginia Beach SPCA. They are both drop off places for supplies and food. You can get the list of what is needed at http://vbspca.com/modules/vbspcadonate/item.php?itemid=7. And if you’re at the VBSPCA, get your raffle ticket. You can get them tomorrow and the drawing is on Friday. The prize is a Kindle Fire.

Tonight is Tropical Smoothie Night for Isle of Wight County Humane Society. I think there is a coupon on the rescue website at http://www.iowchs.org/downloads/TropicalSmoothieCafe.pdf. Just print it out and take it to the TSC at 13609 Carrollton Blvd in Carrollton. Twenty percent of sales from 5 to 8 will go to IOWCHS.

If you have some extra hay, United States Equine Rescue League could use it. Or you could donate $10 to $15. That will buy about 2 or 3 square bales of hay. I don’t have the website available but I know you can find it with an internet search. Just make sure it’s for the Tidewater and North East North Carolina branch. You can also get some gifts. HTF Goods is donating 10% of all sales to USERL. They have unique equestrian jewelry, ear rings, horse hair and leather items, and home décor items. And their prices are really good. Go to http://www.shop.htfgoods.com and put ERL10 in the “special instructions” at the checkout.

Just got an urgent request. There is a dog that was picked up the other day as a stray. She’s at the New Kent Animal Shelter. She had whip worms and hook worms and spent the weekend at the vet with an IV. The worms are gone now but she’s so thin you can see her ribs. She’s a fighter and 8 to 9 years old. She’ll be a beauty when she gains weight! She really needs some chicken and rice to get her eating again. All those worms gave her a tummy ache so she’s a bit picky right now. But she does like chicken!  Hopefully someone dropped off some for today but she’ll need more tomorrow. Chicken and rice is so cheap and easy to donate too. Just drop some off at the shelter at 6301 Olivet Church Road in New Kent.

That’s all for today. I’ll have more tomorrow.
